Golf Tournament - 12th July 2007

Colleges across the region came together to compete in the annual golf tournament organised by Bradford College Lecturer, Kevin Woodhead.   The tournament now in its 13th consecutive year was originally open to Construction Department staff only.  It has since evolved to become a competition open to colleges from around the region.

The golf tournament is supported by the Healthy College initiative, backed by Jane Marshall, Healthy College Manger.  Jane explained: “Total health and a healthy lifestyle comprise of more than just healthy eating and activity, environmental influences and social interaction are equally important too.  We spend a lot of time at work - so it benefits us to be happy during the time we spend here.  That’s why the golf tournament is an excellent opportunity to take part in a sociable sport, which brings colleagues together and promotes a sociable, healthy activity.”

Tournament organiser, Kevin Woodhead said before the competition began: “I’m looking forward to a bit of a laugh with the team.”  When asked what he thought of his chances of winning, Kevin told me:  “Very slim!”  Dave Burden, another golfer competing in the tournament added:  “That’s tripe – he’s favourite to win!”

The collective teams found the course and tournament both challenging and enjoyable.   When the last hole was completed, the winning team was announced.  Terry Driver, Eric Morgan, Eric Midgeley and Ray Lang beat off stiff competition to be crowned winning team, wining cash prizes and new golf balls.  Terry Driver also scooped first prize for best individual performance, Kevin Woodhead scooped second.

Speaking after the competition had ended, Kevin said: “Its been a really good day, everyone's enjoyed themselves.  We’ve had a drink and a bite to eat afterwards.”  When asked about his thoughts on coming second, Kevin told me:  “Everyone’s had a good time that’s the main thing.  It’s a good team building exercise and we build good relationships with other colleges in the area.”
