The Sport Academy programme is a series of coaching, training and competition activities in your chosen sport, wrapped around a vocational study programme of your choice. Each Sport Academy works in its own unique way, but all provide up to 8 hours of group or individual coaching/training per week over 4 sessions, with competition provided by British University and College Sport (BUCS) structures. As an individual, you can still play and compete for your local club. Additionally, you will be able to gain a Sports Coaching and/or Volunteering Award in your chosen sport.
Your vocational study programme is approximately 15 hours per week in your chosen career path. This can be any vocational course from our Further Education Prospectus, such as Construction, Public Services and Beauty Therapy etc.
The College has formed partnerships with world class professional sports clubs to provide the highest quality coaching environment possible. However, the College also maintains its strong links with local community sports groups at all levels and National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of Sport. This provides a ladder of opportunity for students to progress from grass roots level involvement to elite ports participation.
The Sports Academies took part in a College Tour to the 2010 Commonwealth Games, held in New Delhi, India.
The Sports Academy programmes are available to both males and females, but will operate in accordance with legislative requirements and operational capabilities.
The College is working with National Governing Bodies of Sport and community partners to develop programmes for women’s sport in particular.
