UKBFF British Heavyweight Champion Patrick Warner came back to his home town of Bradford to speak to students and staff about his rise to the top - and how hard work and determination to succeed have got him where he is today.
Popular Yorkshire man Patrick Warner, has been hailed as one of the nicest bodybuilders in the industry and has been competing since 1999. The friendly giant wowed the audience as he revealed the physique that won him the title - a 57 inch chest, 21 inch arms, 30 ½ inch legs and massive 18 ½ calves!
Older brother and Bradford College Security Officer, Sly Warner attended the seminar to listen to Champion Patrick explain how he had been competing in the FLEX-supported event since 2002 and despite being tipped as one of the favourites, had never won his class or overall title until now.
The former powerlifter now manages some amazing lifts, including 290kg dead lift, 280kg squat, 225kg bench-press and regularly toys with 200lb dumbbells when training his chest. Patrick laughed and explained: “They’re the biggest dumbbells my gym has to offer!”
When asked how it felt to be the British Heavyweight Champion, Patrick replied: “It’s a great honour! It’s a title I’ve been trying to win for the last 7 or 8 years. I’ve won numerous ones on the other side of the world, but I’ve always wanted to win our national title.” Patrick humbly added: “It’s a great honour and I represent the federation the best way I can.” Patrick has won an impressive 3 UK titles, Mr Great Britain, 2 top 5 finishes in Mr Universe, runner up in Mr World, 2 European titles and numerous others across the globe.
Explaining what prompted the visit to Bradford College, British Heavy Weight Champion Patrick Warner said: “I was invited by Healthy College Manager, Jane Marshall. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I do seminars all over the country - and believe it or not, this is the first one I’ve done in my home town.”
When asked what Patrick hoped the students would gain from his seminar, Patrick replied: “The knowledge and wealth of my experience, with a focus on nutrition and wellbeing. I want the students to feel good about themselves. I’ve got plenty of confidence and I want to instil that in other people. If I can inspire – and that’s what I’ve come here to do – I’ll be happy with that. ”
Speaking after the seminar, Sports Student Callum Cooper said: “It was really good – Its inspired me to be determined and to keep up my boxing training… rather than slacking off. I’m also going to eat a bit better as I didn’t realise how much it helps towards your physique.”
Business Studies Student Omar Hussain added: “It was a great presentation – I found it really inspiring!”
Commenting on the response to the presentation, older bother Sly said: “It was a great turn out – the students listened to what he had to say about bodybuilding and lifestyle.” Sly laughed and said: “The students’ reaction has been excellent – especially when he took his top off.”
Sly added: “He’s a great inspiration. I’m completely proud of him!”
Healthy College Manager, Jane Marshall concluded: “Pat has completely captured the audiences’ attention – and engaged them. I could see they were all inspired by the way they were all listening to him. He really kept their attention.” Jane added: “The feedback we’ve had from students has been very positive – hopefully it will help to change their lifestyles in the future.”
