Jason Barnett is an ‘Ambassador for Health’ at Bradford College. He is the number one British Natural Bodybuilding World Champion and has earned respect worldwide for his physique and award winning performances. Jason has now been nominated for a Pride of Britain Award, which celebrates the achievements of unsung heroes and heroines.
Out of thousands of nominations, Jason is one of four finalists to be specially selected for a regional ITV Feel Good Factor Award - one of the Pride of Britain categories for 2009. The winner will be selected by a panel of judges, live from the Calendar News Television Studios on Friday 18th September.
Commenting on being nominated, Jason said: “I feel extremely honoured to have been nominated for this award – especially as there have been so many worthy people put forward for this accolade. Whatever happens – it’s great to have got this far!”
Local champion Jason has really made a difference to many people’s lives. He works closely with the College and Healthy College Manager, Jane Marshall to enhance the self-esteem, health and fitness of students, along with Bradford Bulls Player, Semi Tadulala with the introduction of his unique Supernatural Fitness Live presentation.
Jane Marshall, Healthy College Manager commenting on Supernatural Fitness said: “Jason’s presentations are very inspiring to our students. They always give positive feedback after the event.” Jane added: “Working with Jason is a great pleasure. He’s extremely professional and passionate about his life, where he has come from and where he is going. The fact that he wants to help students get on the right path and make good choices in life is commendable.”
Jason hasn’t always been a positive role model; by the age of 15 he had left home and was involved with gangs. Jason turned his life around and is passionate to see young people live their lives to their full potential. Through his presentations, he delivers help and guidance to young people around the world helping them to achieve their goals! He also works closely with, the Bradford Bulls, Bradford City F.C and Bradford City F.C. Learning Disabilities Squad as a sports nutritionist as his advice and guidance is keenly sought after.
Bradford Bulls Player, Semi Tadulala and Jason often give presentations to students at Bradford College. Jason explained: “When we were growing up, there were no role models for us; we weren’t guided along the right path and we made a lot of mistakes. I got involved in gangs. I left home at 15 and got mixed up with the wrong crowd. I finally found my own way and got back on the right path, although it was a long and difficult journey. Both Semi and I believe that if there were positive role models around at the time, we wouldn’t have gone down the wrong path.”
Jason concluded: “We believe that with our privileged positions as champions we’re in a position to affect so many different peoples lives in a positive way by delivering a message – ‘Have you got what it takes to get on the right path and stay on the right path, to reach your full potential?’ For the kids it’s about having someone to look up to that they think is cool. We don’t fit the normal stereotype associated with being cool, which are fast cars, women and drugs. These are the standards that are held up for young people to aspire to. We want to promote a different standard, which is to be big, tough but caring - looking after those around us.”
