The national Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) have revealed the shortlist for the 2009 LSIS STAR Awards. Bradford College is proud to announce that College staff, Pat Templeman and Ian Brown have been included on this year’s shortlist for the prestigious award.
Funded by the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS), the STAR Awards celebrate and reward the unsung heroes who work in the further education and skills sector. The awards recognise the hard work and dedication of people who have truly made a difference to those around them with their commitment, dedication and ability to help learners achieve and exceed their learning goals.
Both Ian and Pat are no strangers to recognition for their achievements. Ian was the co-author behind the hugely successful and entertaining book ‘Alan Hardisty - Rugby League Hero’. Alan Hardisty was one of the stars of rugby league during the 1960s and the 1970s.
Cleaning Supervisor, Pat also scooped an award earlier this year for the Bradford College ‘Staff Awards for Excellence ‘09. She was nominated for the category ‘The Person That Makes Me Smile.’ This is due to Pat’s commendable attitude to work. Pat tells everyone she is happy with her work and loves her job. She is bouncy all day from 5:30 am when she starts, right through to the end of the day. She always has a cheery ‘good morning’ for everyone. Her smile is infectious. Colleagues report that she always ‘perks’ them up even if they are feeling a bit down. The warmth she generates and her bouncy personality rubs off on everyone around her.
Speaking about the nomination, Pat smiled and said: “I feel very proud! Modestly she added: “Although I’m surprised that I’ve been nominated!”
Commenting on the nomination, Building Services Assistant Manager, Ian said: “I feel honoured, shocked and delighted to have been nominated for this award. I think the real unsung heroes, are my team of highly committed and dedicated staff. This nomination is a reflection of their hard work and commitment.”
An overwhelming number of nominations were again received which shows how popular and esteemed the awards have become over the past six years. The judges were highly impressed with the standard and quality of nominations.
Pat and Ian have been invited to attend both the regional and national STAR Awards at a glittering ceremony held in London on the 26th November. The Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) holds the annual STAR Awards to recognise and reward unsung heroes like Pat and Ian from the further education sector.
Since the launch of the awards in 2003, over £150,000 in development funding and prize money has been given to winners and highly commended nominees.
