Hospitality and Catering students at Bradford College organised a spectacular community evening to celebrate ‘East Meets West’. The event was hosted in the College Level 6 Restaurant, where guests were invited to sample a range of gourmet Asian cuisine.
The gourmet Asian evening incorporated a range of entertainment, which included: dancing, poetry and food. The event was attended by the Lord Mayor of Bradford together with students, staff, families and members of the community. The aim of the evening was to bring a range of guests including the Mayor and College Principal together with people from the local community to sample food, culture and the atmosphere of an Asian event.
Trainee teacher, Tom Johnson came up with the initial idea and will use the event to write a piece of work for his course. Tom has worked with Level Three Hospitality Supervision students and other members of the team to co-ordinate the event and plan the menu.
Speaking at the event Tom said: “It’s a pleasure for me to see young people who know very little about the Asian culture getting so excited about the event. They’ve gone beyond what I expected; beyond just being interested in food and have shown real passion. The students have been intrigued by the music, the colours of the fabrics we used to decorate the room, the dancers and what each move means.”
The menu, for the evening included: Cucumber Soup, Fish Masala, Chicken Korma and a trio of traditional desserts followed by Asian tea and sweets. Guests were delighted by the evening’s entertainment and were impressed and amazed to hear that Hospitality and Catering students prepared, cooked and served the mouth watering food available during the spectacular community evening.
