
Bradford College is delighted to announce its involvement with Bradford Mela 2009. The event is a great opportunity for communities to come together in celebration and to develop a greater understanding of each others cultures.
The College will support the event as a Community Partner, exhibiting within the ‘Learning Zone’ at Peel Park in Bradford on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th June 2009.
This year is an important year for Bradford Mela as it celebrates its 21st anniversary. In 1988 the Bradford Mela was the first event of its kind in Europe and has gone from strength to strength. It now attracts over 100,000 people from all communities in Bradford as well as from around the country - making it one of the biggest Melas in Europe.
The Mela is known for its family friendly mix of exciting community activities, which include: outdoor entertainment, children's activities, funfair rides, street theatre and a huge array of market stalls selling tempting goods and delicious foods.

Our role as a community partner endorses our long standing commitment to embed equality and diversity and develop truly inclusive provision in order to widen horizons, strengthen communities and bring people together.”
With over 140,000 visitors expected to attend this years Mela over two days, the event provides a fantastic opportunity for the College to promote its facilities, education and training provision and provide information, advice and guidance to visitors. During the Mela the College will also offer a number of exciting taster sessions and hands on activities covering a range of vocational subject areas.
As the most established event of its kind in the UK, Bradford Mela leads the way. June 2009 promises to be an extra-special celebration, with specially commissioned work, collaborations, new performance areas, more workshops to watch/take part in, a new look children's zone and of course the best in local and international entertainment. The Mela brings together people of all ages, from all walks of life and from all backgrounds. Although based on an Asian tradition, the Mela creates the opportunity for all communities to celebrate, share and develop an understanding of each other's cultures.
