Madonna’s Stylist Visits …

L-R Andrew Barton, Becky Price 2.jpgSaks International Creative Director and former British Hairdresser of the Year, Andrew Barton recently swapped the Saks salon for a visit to Bradford College.   Andrew was invited to showcase his latest cuts and colours from his most recent collection to Hairdressing students. 

As former British Hairdresser of the Year, Andrew is respected as a voice of authority on all things hair, so students were thrilled to be involved in the sessions.  Andrew treating 3 models, with different hair types and lengths, to a complete restyle, giving useful tips and advice to students throughout the day.

Andrew is renowned for his trend-setting collections.  He boasts an impressive list of celebrity clients, including:  Jennifer Aniston, Jordan, Madonna - not forgetting fashion houses: Versace, Prada and Calvin Klein!  You may also recognise Andrew as the celebrity hair stylist on hit Channel 4 make-over show 10 Years Younger.  With frequent appearances on TV shows: GMTV, LK Today and Ready Steady Cook. 

Despite his busy schedule, shooting, filming and training, Andrew was happy to talk to our students about careers in hairdressing.  Advising them to adopt their own individual styles to create the perfect haircut.

Students: Lauren White, Nafreena Begum and Becky Price were lucky enough to be selected for a free hair cut from the top hair designer. Andrews fee would normally be in excess of £400.

Becky commenting on her new style said: “I love my haircut, it feels lighter.  I’m really excited to see it!  This has been a once in a lifetime experience!”

Nafreena Begum added: “I’m flattered I’ve had the chance to get my hair cut by a top hairdresser for free!  It was a great experience - I love my new look.”

On attending the session Andrew said: “Education is the life blood of our industry.  I’m always enthused by the belief and commitment the Bradford College Hairdressing Department have for further development.  New techniques are the future of the industry- and the youth are definitely the innovation of tomorrow.  It was great to share the energy at Bradford College!”

Course Tutor and event organiser, Linzi Ratcliffe added: “Andrew has the ability to hold the students attention.  He gave students realistic examples of what can be achieved with hard work.  He’s both approachable yet ‘a cut above’.  Andrew shared his life experiences with the learners, encouraging them to go far in the hairdressing industry.  He’s a true advocate to the profession he loves…. what a fabulous experience it was to be in his company!”
