Bradford College Music Lecturer, Darren Dutson-Bromley is an internationally renowned composer, arranger and musician. Following the success of his critically acclaimed CD ‘My Romance’, which became a BBC Radio 2 Album of the week, Darren is soon to release his eagerly anticipated follow up - ‘Ludamus'.
Performing with many musicians, he has worked with artists as diverse as Jools Holland - to members of Girls Aloud. He is also a regular performer at the Edinburgh Festival, Southport Jazz Festival and Scarborough Jazz Festival, to name but a few. In 1996 he worked for the Princes Trust, where he performed with both Prince Charles and Jools Holland. This subsequently led to a number of television appearances.
Darren’s last album, ‘My Romance’ demonstrated his great talent for solo virtuosic arrangements of classic Jazz standards, performed on the guitar. When asked how it felt to have ‘My Romance’ become a BBC Radio 2 Album of the Week, Darren modestly replied: “That was a real surprise. I didn’t find out about it, until someone sent me a text message!”
Darren studied both jazz and classical guitar in Leeds and has worked professionally ever since. Enjoying life as a performer, Darren has been commissioned by the National Museum of Photography Film and Television to compose the music for the play ‘Electronic Colours’ and has written music that has been used by Yorkshire Television. Working as a composer and arranger he has performed extensively throughout the country.
Explaining more about his latest CD ‘Ludamus', Darren went on to elaborate: “This album has a jazzy, funky feel to it.” Darren laughed and added: “It was recorded at Pinewood Studios, which was fun and interesting, as it’s where the James Bond movies are filmed.”
Darren concluded: “The album was produced by a guy call Richard Niles, who has worked with the likes of Ray Charles and Paul McCartney! It features famous Jazz Singer Tina May and there’s also an 18 piece string orchestrator thrown into the eclectic mix!”
Following a sneak musical preview of Darren’s long awaited follow up to ‘My Romance’, ‘Ludamus' is set to become huge; taking listeners on an unforgettable musical journey - that is not to be missed!
