September 2008 showcased the opening of the Trinity Green Campus - Phase One of the accommodation plan. Trinity Green Campus provides unsurpassed facilities, expertise and learning resources to meet the needs of the twenty-first century.
Phase 1 of the accommodation strategy building involved the redevelopment of the former McMillan Halls on Trinity Road into the innovatively designed Trinity Green Campus. The £20 million campus is home to Construction, Engineering and Sports curriculum areas and was completed in June 2008. TGC provides modern workshops; staff and student break-out areas; Wi-Fi technology; extensive learning resource areas; and student services. New sporting facilities include a 1000m² sports hall; sports and fitness laboratories; a fitness testing suite; a dedicated sport theory room; an aerobics and dance studio complete with fully sprung wooden floor; multi-use games area; 2 basketball courts designed to Sport England standard; three 5-a-side pitches; and a full size football pitch which is available for community use.
The college’s new sports facilities now feature in the London Organising Committee Pre-Games Training Camp Guide for the Olympics in 2012.
The original Phase 2 plans for the College’s accommodation plan
involved the creation of a £120 million, 37,500m2, world class building,
which was to be funded by the LSC Capital Programme. The campus was to
be built on the site where the Westbrook Building, Randell Well Building
and Alexandra car park are currently situated.
Unfortunately
after a lot of work on the plans the College’s Application in Principle
was to be approved on the day that the Learning and Skills Council
discovered it had over-committed its budget and that all capital funding
for colleges was over spent. The Learning and Skills Council was
folded and capital funding support is no longer available.
