Following the announcement that Qatar has won the bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Bradford College International student Ali Al- Suwaidi gave a movie style presentation on his experience of visiting the Qatar FA headquarters. The presentation hosted at Bradford College’s Wow Academy has been given the backing of the Qatari Government & Embassy.

Ali a HND Engineering student at the College spoke to over a 150 guests about his visit to the Qatar FA headquarters.

The event was watched by high level representatives from Bradford City Football Club, Bradford College Football Academy, Qatari Embassy Officials, College Management and students from the International Centre.

Guests heard how Ali was presented with copies of the Qatar FA’s presentations to the FIFA Committee, which secured their bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, beating off stiff competition from: Australia, Japan, Korea Republic and the USA. The decision for Qatar to host the World Cup follows the FIFA Executive Committee voting in a secret ballot on 2 December 2010 in Zurich.

Ali revealed during the presentation that the Bid Committee’s strategy and objectives were guided by the Qatar National Vision 2030 for infrastructure, which acknowledges Qatar’s future needs for additional sports, medical, educational and other facilities as vital components of its modern society.

Qatar’s successful bid strategy also included a compact FIFA World Cup accessible to everyone, with all stadiums within a relatively short distance of each other; meaning significantly less travel time for fans, players and the media.  This will enable fans to attend a greater number of matches and follow all the teams.

Ali invited fellow Qatari student Abdulaziz Abdulla AL-Merekhi to deliver part of the presentation which outlined how groundbreaking technology will be used to cool open air stadiums, training grounds and fan zones in an energy efficient way.   He also went on to reveal how the Qatar 2022 stadiums have been designed using modular components, which can be removed after the World Cup and reassembled in developing countries across the world.  This was followed by a Question and Answer session.

Speaking at the event, Ali said: “Qatar has the passion, culture, resources, the necessary support and the talent to create the perfect stage for the world’s greatest players.  Ali added: “The global football family can ‘expect amazing’ before, during and after the competition.”
