Fashioning An Ethical Industry

Thinking again about the real fashion victims and the true cost of cheap fashion

Phionna Fitzgerald and Liz Parker

On 10th March the Yorkshire Craft Centre welcomed Liz Parker, Joint Co-ordinator of Labour Behind the Label’s Fashioning an Ethical Industry project, who came to inform fashion students of the urgent need for them to be aware of global issues within the industry so they can effect positive change when they graduate and start working in fashion.

Accompanying Liz, to give first hand testimony of working conditions in Bangladesh garment factories were Kalpona Akter, Secretary General and Executive Director of the Bangladesh Centre for Workers Solidarity (BCWS) and Babul Akhter, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Garments & Industrial Workers Federation (BGIWF).
