Tickets to the matinee and evening show of Bradford School of Arts & Media’s Fashion Show were snapped up in record time as fashionistas flocked to see the latest student and graduate design collections. The matinee also included presentation of prizes for the winners of the Bradford Young Creative Design Awards.
This year’s event, held at the National Media Museum on 21st June was more spectacular than ever as it included an exciting international dimension. But primarily the garments spoke volumes of the takent and imagination of their designers. | Academy of Design, Colombo, Sri Lanka: Dinukshi Hettige:Sweeney Todd Based on the movie ‘Sweeney Todd’ this final collection was inspired by the work of the costume designer Colleen Atwood. it portrays the bittersweet romance through the combination of soft and dark colours, predominantly featuring handmade Sri Lankan Beeralu lace designs. |

| Isuru Liyanage: Napoleon Bonaparte Inspired by Napoleon Bonaparte, this womenswear collection uses masculine military imagery to show a woman’s strength. The designer developed batik designs with local craftsmen, which were incorporated into the silhouettes featuring grace, femininity, and aristocratic power. |

| Lianne Carolan: POW A collection consisting of all-in-ones and separates which takes inspiration from comic book classics. The silhouette mirrors the clean lines of the superhero while the colour palette reflects the bold yet muted style of sin city. Styled with jersey bodysuits and grey, blue and red tights printed with comic strip captions, this collection is designed to bring out your inner superhero. |

| Dady Nzeza: Cigars and Handkerchiefs The collection is based on the film ‘Gangs of New York’. The inspiration comes from the fabrics and silhouettes used throughout the film. The designer has used a mismatch of colours and fabrics to create trousers, jackets, waistcoats and shirts that have a youthful appeal; adding flair and style to any young man’s wardrobe. |

| Claire Moss: Off With Her Head... This is a collection based on queens throughout history, particularly the ones that had their heads chopped off! The designer has looked at five individual queens (Anne Boleyn,Catherine Howard,Marie Antoinette,Mary Queen of Scots and Lady Jane Grey) to create a collection that captures both the stylish and sinister side of royal life. |

| Mikala Jackson: Hop, Skip, Jump A capsule collection of dresses and separates based around the story of Peter Rabbit and other Beatrix Potter characters. Influenced by the shapes of the characters, the main focus is on digital and screen printing which depicts images of little Theodore. |

| Rachel Brown: Welcome to the Order This collection takes inspiration from the concept of freemasonry and its rich base of symbols, allowing a truly individual digital print to be developed. The colours respond to the dark and often secretive society that is the world of freemasonry. Primarily a jersey collection with a mixture of cotton and leather, the shapes and silhouettes are clean and simple enabling the digital print to take centre stage. |

| Sophie Baxter: Little Edie A collection featuring mismatch fabrics, prints and textures inspired by the relationship between Big Edie and Little Edie and the riches to rags lifestyle they had, using vintage style prints and textures to reflect the sad story of what Grey Gardens once was.
