Hannah Mouzdi’s moving image expresses the reality of many nights out.
She said, “I wanted to convey the idea of the night being a blur and I got permission to film in a nightclub in Halifax. After the recording I made it more blurry for emphasis. I never grew up in a drink culture but I saw my peer group under that pressure and getting drunk. But eventually they realise the financial cost and start to get more sensible. If you are spending £50 or £60 on drink every night out it stops you doing other things. I think that there is more pressure in the younger age group, as part of the buzz for them is rule breaking. I remember when I was a school being shocked by a twelve year old girl on the bus saying she was trying to go more than a day without a drink. Once they are eighteen and they have ID to buy drink it is less daring and so less fun.”
