Dance The Movies

Dance The MoviesLights, camera, action! Our talented dancers from our National Diploma in Performing Arts programme took their audience on a trip to the movies in March.

Taking their inspiration from cinema choreography old and new, they demonstrated a wide range of styles and moods in a packed programme featuring numbers from  Chicago, Grease, Hairspray, Dirty Dancing, Mamma Mia, Saturday Night Fever, Annie, Flashdance, Fame, Stomp, Billy Elliot, Save The Last Dance, Honey, High Street Musical, Step Up 2, Slumdog Millionaire (Jai Ho) and This Is It (Thriller).

The project was devised and danced by second year students Lauren Ansell, Shanelle Griffin, Elizabeth Hall, Bethany Oswald and Danielle Rice.

Dance The Movies Lecturer Sara Bevington explained, "This was our final opportunity to work together as a team, to create some exciting and challenging choreography. We organised the piece entirely, from the choreography, to the costume and set design to marketing. It was a challenging experience but one that we are proud of. "

Some of the pieces involved the first year dancers Michelle Davies, Lauren Hemsley, Victoria Ingham, Liam Mitchell, Kirsti Moran, Melissa Thorpe and Georgina Whitaker, who also choreographed their own pieces for an assessment.

It was a great show, and all the dancers and audience, like the characters in Dirty Dancing, "had the time of their lives."
