Displays of the final work by students on the Foundation Diploma in Art & Design are incredibly diverse. As Lecturer Lizzie Lockhart explained, this is due to the nature and intention of the course, as well as the students’ own interests.
“Bradford has a very long tradition of the Foundation course which is well established and recognised nationally. The Foundation Diploma show is always exciting. It is the culmination of an intensive post A Level and pre-degree year’s work. This diagnostic year allows students to make an informed decision on a degree programme with a thorough backing in critical and contextual studies. This is frequently a transforming experience as in understanding what they are capable of, our students frequently surprise themselves.
As well as joining our own degree programmes in the School of Arts & Media, students embark on specialist degree courses the length and breadth of the UK, from Falmouth to Glasgow, in diverse areas including as architecture, costume, embroidery, industrial design, product design, social anthropology, sculpture and theatre design. Other students are going directly into employment in their chosen career or deferring a degree place to take a gap year.”
