Painting and Decorating for Women Award in Basic Construction Skills

Course Overview

This course gives you an introduction to the basic skills required for painting and decorating. It is practically based and you will gain the basic skills for surface preparation and paint finishing skills.

Attendance is one day each week for five hours and all sessions must be attended. Assessment is via practical assessments and some written questions linked to the practical tasks.

Entry Requirements

You will be required to attend an interview and to take a grading assessment for Literacy and Numeracy achieving a minimum level of Entry 3 to ensure that you have suitable levels for the course. You will also need a willingness to learn and develop your skills.

A commitment to punctuality and attendance is essential.

You may be able to complete additional Units on papering skills and painting a panelled door and then progress  onto the Construction Diploma in Painting and Decorating at the appropriate level.
