Carpentry and Joinery Level 1 Award in Basic Construction Skills

Course Overview

This course gives you an introduction to all the basic skills required for carpentry and joinery. The course is practically based and you will gain the basic hand skills for carpentry and joinery including constructing a small door and fixing skirting and architrave.


Attendance is two evenings each week for 10 weeks and all sessions must be attended. Assessment is by practical assessment and some written questions linked to the practical tasks.

Entry Requirements

You will be required to attend an interview and to take a grading assessment for Literacy and Numeracy achieving a minimum level of Entry 3 ensuring you have suitable levels of literacy and numeracy for the course. You will need a willingness to learn and develop your skills.

A commitment to punctuality and attendance is also essential.

Progression will be onto the Level 1 Construction Diploma which will be for a further 26 weeks with an extra half day session.
