On this course you will develop the teaching, personal and academic skills to help you be a great teacher. This course is for new teachers and those that want to improve their teaching and training skills. It enables you to gain QTLS (Qualified Teacher, Learning and Skills) status and is 120 credits at Level 4 in Year One and Level 5 in Year Two. The course is endorsed by Standards Verification (SVUK), the professional organisation for teachers and trainers. It is ideal for those who need to achieve the statutory requirement to teach in the sector.
We will require you to attend Mondays from 15.00 to 19.15 in the first year and undertake further private study. The course will run from 15.00 to 19.15 on Wednesdays in the second year. Teachers who deliver a Skills for Life subject, Literacy, ESOL or Numeracy can also achieve the Additional Diploma in their subject with three Optional Modules.
You will need a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in your own subject area. You should also have a Level 2 qualification in English, Literacy or Communication Key Skills or be willing to work towards this during the course. You will also need appropriate paid teaching or training, full-time or part-time, as your main role in the post-compulsory sector for 100 hours over two years, and a mentor to support you in your role and carry out two teaching observations.
You may not have to pay course fees - please see our financial support pages.
We were delighted that the QAA's Integrated Quality and Enhancement Review (IQER), carried out in January 2010 concluded that they had 'Confidence' (the highest judgement possible) in the quality of our Higher Education provision.
