Law LLB (Hons) Bachelor of Laws

Course Overview

Our LLB (Hons) programme recognises the need to provide an academically challenging degree which will provide you with a sound knowledge of legal concepts and an understanding of the operation of law in society. Legal electives are available and you will be able to use these to study areas relating to your personal, vocational and academic interests.

Course Structure

This Honours degree consists of  eight semesters taken over four years of part-time study. The classes run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between 18.00 and 21.00.
 

Modules Covered

This SRA/Bar Council qualifying Law degree contains the seven Foundation subjects. These are: Contract, Tort, Criminal Law, Public Law, Equity and Trusts, Land Law and European Law. These seven Core subjects are vital in order to gain exemption from the SRA or Bar Council, (subject to SRA regulations being satisfied) to allow you to progress quickly in your chosen legal career.

Learning Methods

The aim is to involve you in your own learning and for you to develop legal skills transferable to a successful career after graduation.

Teaching Methods

A wide range of teaching methods are used including lectures, seminars, workshops, one to one sessions, dissertation work and educational visits. Our one to one session cover, not only legal knowledge, but the key skills of writing, referencing and research that are invaluable skills for legal practice. Our open door policy also ensures that help, support and guidance is there when you need it.

Assessment

The programme uses a variety of methods to assess you, including in-course assignments, dissertation and examinations.

What`s Next?

The structure of the programme offers a wide range of exciting career options in the legal and business world. These include working as a solicitor, barrister, fee earner, paralegal or legal executive; working in  the law courts; with legal aspects of exporting, marketing, finance and administration; with local and national government and trade union work.

 

Entry Requirements

A minimum of five GCSEs at Grade C or above to include English Language.
Minimum tariff points range - 240
We normally require passes in a minimum of three A2 GCE or AVCE (minimum 12 units) or BTEC Nationals or the equivalent.
In addition to the above qualifications the College also encourages applications from potential students who have achieved one of the following:
Access Courses - Award of a full Access Certificate by a licensed Access Validating Agency
Key Skills - Level 3 (Application of Number, Communication, ICT)
Compact Students -with evidence of participation
Aim Higher students are welcomed
Other qualifications or experience which demonstrate that you possess suitable knowledge and skills in an appropriate area of study may be appropriate for entry to both degree and HND programmes. The College welcomes applications from mature students who do not satisfy these entry requirements, provided you can demonstrate that, by virtue of other studies and/or experience, you are capable of coping with or benefiting from the course.
Mature students (aged over 21) will be considered on the basis of employment experience, as opposed to formal qualifications, and will be interviewed.

The National Student Survey (NSS) is the biggest annual survey of final year students studying on higher education courses in England. Bradford College is proud to announce that our student satisfaction exceeds the national average in many areas of teaching and learning.

* 90% students were satisfied with the quality of their course which exceeds the national average of 81%
* 95% of students were satisfied with the teaching of their course, exceeding the national average of 83%
* 77% of students were satisfied with the advice and support received on their course, which exceeds the national average of 74%
* 80% of students were satisfied with the organisation and management of their course, exceeding the national average of 72%
* We boasted an overall student satisfaction rate of 90%, which is well above that of Law students studying at Universities in the region
