

HND Music offers you the opportunity to develop your musical skills across a number of areas. Specialist units in harmony and arranging, computer music composition, rehearsal and performance allow you to hone the particular skills you have whilst gaining new and invaluable ones.

With Bradford being the World's first UNESCO City of Film, it is no wonder that there is an emphasis on creating, performing and recording music for moving image. The course has strong links with The Co-Operative British Youth Film Academy which offers every student the chance to work on short and feature-length film productions whilst studying at the College. There is also the option to spend some time in India at the world famous 'Whistling Woods International' Film School to study in their renowned Music Department. There are plenty of opportunities to perform at concerts, recitals and informal gigs, and regular trips and visits from professional musicians will help to build your network of contacts.
The course aims to equip you with the skills, knowledge and determination to progress onto a final year degree or straight into the music industry. If you are a keen, motivated and enthusiastic musician, then The Bradford School of Arts and Media could be the place for you.
In Year One you will study Units including: Aural Perception, Harmony and Composition, Band Rehearsal Techniques and Composition for Film and Television. You will have the opportunity to work on a feature film in conjunction with the BYFA.
In year Two you will study Units including: World Music Studies, Work Based Project and Music Performance Skills. In this year there is the opportunity to study in Mumbai at Whistling Woods International.
We aim to create a holistic learning environment, where you can explore your creativity and identify your own personal production style. Within this, we offer guided learning and support when you may require it, but also place a lot of emphasis on self-led study. This academic independence becomes increasingly relevant over the duration of the curriculum, in order to prepare you for employment or further study.
Due to the practical nature of the course, a lot of tuition will be delivered through hands-on workshops and tutorials. In order for your skills to be substantiated academically, lectures and seminars based on theories and concepts surrounding the subject area will also be integral to your learning process.
You will be assessed through a combination of formative and summative assignments to ensure that your learning is consistent and structured, and that you can fulfil your maximum adacemic and creative potential.
Assessment will be both practical and theory-based, in order to equip you with the skills required for employment in the industry as well as the background expertise to thrive in the sector.
Due to the practical, employment-focused nature of a HND course, many of our graduates head straight into employment in the Arts, having benefitted from our network of expertise and close links with the industry. Alternatively, you could choose to study a Top-Up qualification in a relevant area in order to gain a Full Honours Degree.
As an Arts and Media student you will have the opportunity to learn from both practitioners and experienced professionals. You will work with artists and designers as well as local and national galleries, museums and exhibitions.
You will develop your creative ability within a well-resourced learning environment which offers excellent studio and workshop facilities.
220 tariff points in relevant subjects. Consideration may be given to two GCE AS or BTEC Extended Certificate/Diploma. ABRSM Music Theory at Grade 3 or above. You will be invited to an interview and will be expected to play a prepared piece on your first instrument.
