Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing

Course Overview

This course is ideal if your dream is to be part of the service industry. At Level 3 you will gain an excellent range of skills which will enable you to gain further skills that will enhance your career opportunities.

You will be introduced to all aspects of hairdressing and will 'learn by doing'. The programme is flexible and you will have the opportunity to gain further qualifications. The course will move at a pace to enable you to develop as an individual and manage your own learning with assistance from our experienced and dedicated and highly qualified staff  who will give you full support as you develop your skills and abilities. You will develop and maintain a high level of professional behaviour and work ethos. 

A Learning Resource Centre is available.

Successful completion of this course offers progression to Levels 4 and 5.
 

Course Structure

This course will provide an understanding of the sector and the vocational skills and knowledge required for hairdressing. It will also give you an awareness of the range of jobs and work settings in the hairdressing field and will enable you to make an informed decision about your future career.

You will study a total of 58 Credits which will include Health & Safety, Consultation Services and Hair Colouring/Colour Correction alongside many more exciting and interesting subjects, including Creative Hair Styling to ensure your confidence in salon situations.

If you complete this qualification, you will have the opportunity to work in ‘Centenary Hair’, our city centre salon, to enhance your skills.

Entry Requirements

You will need to have NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing.  You will have an initial screening test for Literacy where you need to achieve at least Level 1. You will also have a dexterity skill test. You need to be enthusiastic and self motivated, have the desire to succeed and want to be at the top in the hairdressing industry. You need to be hard working, have a cheerful disposition and  treat everyone fairly and with respect.

You will need to be willing to commit to 100% attendance.
 

Experience of working in a salon will enhance your application.

How You Will Be Assessed

You will be assessed:

  •  On your practical skills in a commercial salon.
  • By written and verbal skills.

Things You May Need

  • You will need to purchase a hairdressing kit and uniform.
  • You may have to provide some of your own models for practice and assessment
  • There are also additional costs for extra curricular activities such as 'Skills Week' or attending exhibitions or trade fairs which may be incurred during your training
  • A camera to take photographs of your work for your portfolio.
