Course Overview

Working in the world of Nail Technology has become more challenging and exciting as the industry expands and new technologies are developed. The demand for Nail Technicians is growing as people are now more aware of their appearance and the importance of having groomed hands.
 

This course is ideal if your dream is to be part of the service Industry. At Level 2 you will learn the range of skills that will enable you to gain employment in the exciting world of Nail Services.

You will be introduced to all aspects of treating nails and will 'learn by doing'. The programme is flexible and you will have the opportunity to gain further qualifications such as the  Level 2 Award in Contact Dermatitis.

The course moves at a pace which allows you to develop as an individual and manage your own learning with assistance from our experienced, dedicated and highly qualified staff  who will give you full support as you develop your skills and abilities.
 

You will develop and maintain a high level of professional behaviour and work ethos which is required when you go into employment in the industry.

A Learning Resource Centre is available.

Successful completion of this course offers progression to a Level 3 NVQ course.

Course Structure

Your course will include:

  • Health & Safety
  • Promotional Activities
  • Effectiveness at Work
  • Manicure Treatments
  • Pedicure Treatments
  • The Extension & Maintenance of Nails Using Acrylic Based Systems
  • Nail Art
  • Reception Duties.

You will also study Functional Skills in Communication, Application of Number and/or Information Technology.

On this course, you will have the opportunity to gain work experience in ‘Centenary Hair’, our city centre salon, to enhance your skills.

Entry Requirements

You should be aged 16+ and have two GCSEs at Grade C/D or above (preferably including English and Science) or have completed the Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector course and have the ability and will to succeed, self motivation and enthusiasm. You should be hard-working, be of a cheerful disposition and treat everyone fairly and with respect.
You will be interviewed and you will be given an initial screening test for Literacy in which you must achieve Level 1.
Experience of working in a salon will be an advantage.

You will need to be willing to commit to 100% attendance.

If you do not meet the requirements of  the above you will be offered Level 1 Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector.

This course is not suitable for pregnant or lactating mothers.

How You Will Be Assessed

  • Theory will be assessed by assignments and written tests and by practical assessments in a realistic working environment.
  • You will also need to build a portfolio.

Things You May Need

  • You will need to purchase a uniform and nail kit
  • You may  have to provide some of your own models for practice and assessmen
  • There are also additional costs for extra curricular activities such as 'Skills Week' or attending exhibitions or trade fairs which may be incurred during your training
  • A camera will be an advantage to take photographs of your work for your portfolio.
