BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Introduction to the Travel & Tourism Industry

Course Overview

Travel and Tourism is a large and fast growing industry, offering a wide variety of jobs such as: Cabin Crew, Holiday Representatives, Tour Guides, Travel Agents and airport staff. This Level 1 course offers a good insight into the different areas of the industry and the preparation required to progress onwards with a career in the sector.

This exciting course can lead to employment in a travel agency or tourist attraction or employment as a travel operator or with an airline, either in the UK or overseas. You will also study Functional Skills in Literacy & Numeracy as these skills are essential for those that wish to work in the Travel & Tourism industries.

You will be taught by a team of professionals who have all had high profile jobs in the travel industry. The course runs over three days per week and you will study 11 different Units of study over the duration of the course.

Course Structure

During the course you will study theory in fun, hands-on and active lessons.

Alongside the main Level 1 qualification, you will also have the opportunity to study additional subjects which will prepare you  for a successful career. Topics you will study include:

U1: The UK Travel Industry, U2: The UK Tourism Industry, U3: Customer Service in Travel & Tourism, U4: Locational Geography, U5: Package Travel & Tourism Products & Services, U6: UK Travel & Tourism Destinations, U7: Recommending Holidays to Suit Customers' Needs, U8: Worldwide Travel & Tourism Destinations, U9: The Role of Overseas Resort Representatives, U10: Travel & Tourism Itineraries & U15: Preparing for Employment in Travel & Tourism.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at a minimum of Grade E, including Mathematics and English, or a full Entry Level 3 qualification at Merit level. You must have a passion and clear interest in pursuing a career within the Travel & Tourism Industries. How You Will Be Assessed

  • Through the production of evidence for each Unit using an internet based e-assessment system.

Things You May Need

  • A Travel & Tourism Uniform for which the cost will be approximately  £50.
  • A contribution towards visits and trips which are mandatory and are linked to the Units studied and assignments produced
  • Access to the internet in your own time.
