Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design

Course Overview

This course, equivalent to four GCSEs at A*-C, introduces you to the stimulating employment area of Art and Design. You will learn by completing interesting projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. You will sample a range of areas such as: Fine Art, Graphic Design, 3D Design, Photography, Ceramics, Fashion and Interactive Media and develop a greater understanding of the materials and techniques you use.

Course Structure

The course is made up of Mandatory and Specialist Units.

You will experience both practical and taught sessions.
 

Throughout the course, you will use drawing, painting, sculpture and visual language to communicate your ideas effectively.

Entry Requirements

You should have a minimum of five GCSEs at Grade C or above including English Language (Grade B in English and Grade C in Mathematics is advisable for Level 3 courses for progression to Higher Education and employment).


You will be interviewed and will need to bring your portfolio/folder of art, media or design related work, which should include examples of drawing from real life.


The Art and Design industry expects you to be creative and enthusiastic. To succeed, you should be aware of current trends in Art and Design.

  • Need to use maths appropriate to Art and Design eg scale, measuring etc

  • Unit assessments which are assessed through the work you produce in answer to project briefs and assignments set by the awarding body or by the tutors.

  • A termly fee for art materials
