Pathway to Independent Living

Course Overview

This course is within Foundation Learning and runs for one year but can be extended if appropriate. 
 

The main aim of the course is to enhance your independence skills providing you with a variety of opportunities to demonstrate your skills within a safe and supportive environment.

Emphasis is given to the development of individual programmes which are reviewed regularly.

Course Structure

You will be working towards the Award/Certificate/Diploma in Personal Progress with the main aim of the course being to promote the development of independence skills.

All activities can count towards your qualification and are designed to offer a wide range of opportunities for those working at Entry Level 1 or below.

You will be encouraged, with tutor support, to plan your own study programmes to build confidence and we actively encourage self-advocacy.

Entry Requirements

You should be working at Pre-Entry/Entry Level 1, have the ability to work co-operatively in a group and be interested in furthering your independence skills.
 

You will be required to attend an informal workshop interview.

This course is suitable for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
Applications should be submitted from November onwards.

How Will I Learn?

Timetables are flexible enabling you to work in subject areas where you have an interest or to improve your skills.
You will work with both lecturers and support assistants.

You will be working through Units to broaden your skills, knowledge and understanding, these will be evidence through a variety of tasks and put together in an assessment portfolio.

You will also be involved in a range of enrichment activities that will support and enhance your classroom sessions such as sailing and sports classes.

The programme is based at Bolton Royd but also takes advantage of the College's excellent and varied resources based on the main campus, such as Trinity Green sports halls.

Benefits

The course runs for four days across the week - Monday to Friday, term-time only, and transport may be  provided if necessary. Where appropriate, you will have the opportunity to follow an independent travel training programme.
