NVQ Level 3 Professional Cookery

Course Overview

The Hospitality and Catering industry is one of Britain's largest employment sectors and continues to grow. There is a shortage of good Level 3 qualified chefs and, if you aspire to 'be the best', you will find a career in this sector very rewarding. You will have the chance to work in world-class hotels, restaurants, guest houses and licensed premises. If you are hard working, dedicated, enthusiastic and enjoy preparing, cooking and presenting food to a high standard then this is the ideal course for you.

Course Structure

Throughout the course, you will cover Units including: Supervisory Skills in the Hospitality Industry, Principles of Food Safety Supervision, Practical Gastronomy, Advanced Culinary Skills and Techniques and Personal Presentation and Professionalism.

Entry Requirements

You should be aged 16-19 and have VRQ /NVQ Level 2 in Food Preparation and Cooking and GCSE English at Grade C or above or an equivalent Functional Skills qualification.

It is essential that you have part-time work or unpaid work experience as a chef.

You must also have an interest in the catering industry.

How You Will Be Assessed

  • Theoretical assignments
  • Practical skills will be tested with synoptic tests at the end of year to acheive the relevant grade - Pass, Merit or Distinction.
