The Bradford College Foundation Degree in Casting Technology is believed by experts to be one of the most important developments within the industry for many years. It looks set to become a model of excellence for Foundation Degree Forward, following the success of the specialist educational programme.
West Yorkshire Lifelong Learning Network (WYLLN), The Institute of Cast Metal Engineers (ICME), Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3), and Metallurgy and Materials will also contribute to the case study and journal that looks at Foundation Degree development in Casting Technology.
The Foundation Degree in Casting Technology is supported by West Yorkshire Lifelong Learning Network (WYLLN) as the degree responds to the needs of the sector, following a shortage of younger, skilled technicians in this specialist area. This degree has assisted the industry to remain competitive and thrive, as a higher qualification is required to help educate and develop the next generation of industry leaders.
In 2009, the Institute of Cast Metal Engineers (ICME) hosted the National Industry Launch of the Foundation Degree in Casting Technology at its headquarters in the National Metalforming Centre.
The Foundation Degree has been nominated for a Queens Award for employer engagement policies and distance and e-learning and has been featured in the UKCME case study ‘Metallurgy and Materials’.
