Funded by an Arts Council grant, Looking at Landscape is a series of three exhibitions by ionarts about landscape, both environmentally and as represented in art, historically and contemporarily.
ionarts formed in 2008 as a group of five artists: Barbara Greene, Pat Harvey, Peter Harvey, Des Pattison and Ann Rutherford. Four of them met while studying for MA degrees at Bradford School of Arts & Media, whilst Peter is currently an MA Fine Art student at Chester University. Their purpose is to work and exhibit together on subjects of mutual interest.
The first exhibition, Looking at Landscape, which acted as a taster for work to come, was presented in the Café/Bar at the Yorkshire Craft Centre, Bradford in April/May 2009.
The second exhibition, Field Day, was set up as a gallery in a National Parks field in the Yorkshire Dales. It took place over two days in June 2009 as part of the Grassington Festival.
You can see watch a fabulous film about Field Day here.
This film, along with another taken at this innovative show, feature in the final exhibition in this trilogy, Looking at Looking at Landscape, which is also informed by the process of staging a show in a field. This absorbing exhibition, which is set out like the best landscapes, with fascinating views glimpsed from every angle, really is a breath of fresh air!
