As Ian will retire during the summer of 2011, he and his former pupil, the acclaimed artist and musician, Brendan Croker offer a very special collaboration.
The exhibition shared an open evening with the gallery exhibition, Workers' Playtime, on 13th January. Our incredible duo delighted the large and lively audience of art lovers with the rendition of a song specially composed for the occasion which had been inspired by a notice in the gallery which they had spotted as they were unloading their work.
As this is seems to encapsulate their strange genuis we have included the lyrics:
Do Not Touch The Piano
You can tweak my tuba
That won’t tear me apart
Fondle my flute
Which might be cute
That’s the way to my heart
Jerk my fret
I won’t sweat
But please do not touch the piano.
I’m not possessive
Don’t have a lot
There are certain things
I know I’ve got
I’ve got MRSA
And OCD
You can change my dressing
But don’t tickle my ivories
Please do not touch the piano.
You can shake my maracas
And slap my tambourine
Blow hot and cold down my trumpet
That won’t make me scream
Pet my harp
Drum your fingers up and down
Rattle my snare drum
And hock my harmonium
Of which I have no need
But did you hear? Can’t you read?
Please do not touch the piano.
You can look but you must not touch
You can look but you must not touch the piano!
Exhibition runs from Monday 10th January until Thursday 17th February 2011.
