Practising artists, curators and educators from throughout the country gathered at the Yorkshire Craft Centre on Wednesday 14th November for a rewarding day of speakers, debate and networking, plus a diverting Multiples Show, all focusing on the interdisciplinary fields of multiples, printmaking, digital arts and book arts. The day was timed to coincide with the climax of the well-received Re-Masters exhibition of work by recent MA Printmaking and Photography graduates.
Visitors from the leading institutions throughout the UK attended the YCC’s Bradford Gallery to hear speakers of national and international importance in the Multi Seminar: Maria White, Curator of Book Arts at Tate Britain; Theresa Solimon, Curator of the International Krakow Print Triennial; Chris Taylor and John McDowell of the Leeds International Contemporary Artists Book Fair and Kate Mellor, Artist and Educator.
Colin Lloyd, Course Tutor for MA Printmaking, who arranged the event, explained: “This was a fantastic networking opportunity for everyone. Many great contacts were made and other events will be initiated. For instance, Tate Britain will be advising us directly on the Bradford School of Arts & Media collection. We are also working with Theresa Soliman to develop a joint project, Hibrida III, showing young Polish printmakers and established East European printmakers, alongside Young British Artists including Tracey Emin, Sarah Lucas, Marc Quinn, Gavin Turk, Mark Wallinger and Gillian Wearing. I am looking forward to curating the show which will be held at Cartwright Hall in March 2008.”
Over lunch delegates had chance to examine around 60 objects displayed in the Café Bar and reception, drawn from the collections of Colin Lloyd, Robert Chevera, Robert Galeta and Pat Harvey in the Multiples Show. The programme includes images and essays by the Multiples exhibition contributors: download it here
Professionals were not the only ones to benefit from this exposure to ideas. Students using the café/ bar showed a great deal of interest in the Multiples displays, which included pieces by numerous artists including David Hockney, Yoko Ono and Tracey Emin.
