Read how Lee Slater went from being a Music Technology student to being a highly regarded Producer, Mixer, Writer and Engineer with the help of Bradford College.
Working with music ‘A’ Listers including: Kylie, Rufus Wainwright, Kooks, Pigeon Detectives, Kaiser Chiefs, Babyshambles, Basement Jaxx, Little Boots and Glasvegas – Lee Slater has achieved an astonishing amount of success since his time as a National Diploma in Music Technology student.
Enrolling on the course after leaving the Sixth Form at Queensbury High School, Lee quickly threw himself into his studies and further developed his passion for music. Quickly showing signs of his talents Lee impressed his tutors and adopted a ‘never take no for an answer’ attitude.
Reflecting on his time at the college, Lee says: “I chose Bradford College because it offered great facilities and talented, helpful tutors. The course gave me a grounding on how recording studios work and the technology was out of this world. I learnt so many new skills and really developed a passion for the music industry.”
Now working as a Mixer, Producer, Writer and Engineer at one of Britain's Top Recording Studios, Strongroom; Lee has gone on to achieve industry recognition and with his work taking him across the globe Lee has enjoyed success in the UK and Far East.
Talking about his life working in the music industry Lee says, “My job isn’t nine to five, I often work late nights and weekends. My schedule is pretty busy and I often go from one project to the next in the blink of an eye. When I first left college my first professional studio job took me to the legendary Monnow Valley studios in Wales, where I assisted and engineered for many acclaimed producers before eventually moving to the bright lights of London. I spent time working as a freelancer before becoming an In-House Engineer at Strongroom; I currently enjoy working with world-renowned producers such as Ed Buller and Dan Grech-Marguerat.”
Making an impression on the music world, Lee is renowned for his attention to sonic detail and ear for great pop hooks. Specialising in band recording, mixing and production, Lee is also involved in live recording and 5.1 mixing.
Commenting on Lee’s success, his former Music Technology Tutor Stef Erdos said, “At Bradford College, the Music Tech team are immensely proud of Lee and his achievements. I personally have been a studio engineer for over 25 years and what Lee has achieved in such a short space of time is astonishing.”
