When asked what Andy’s family and friends thought about his achievements at such a young age, Andy modestly replied: “I don’t really know what they think about it all? Obviously I’m really, really happy and I think they know that. I have to put a lot of hard work in, which means I’m sometimes not at home when I think they’d like me to be, but they appreciate I’ve chosen to do this as a career, so they’re very, very supportive.”
Speaking about what he enjoys most about his role, Andy explained: “I enjoy seeing when things have changed - and seeing the positive impact its had on the College. When I look back at what we’ve done… I’m talking about all the big initiatives and even some of the smaller ones, I get a lot of satisfaction!”
“When I’ve been able to support people in the College and I see them doing a really good job I get a lot out of that too. I’m really proud of the teams who work for me. They really do some fantastic work. I know people appreciate them across the College and it’s not like they’re unsung heroes or anything but I do get a lot of fulfilment from seeing them do well. It just makes me proud to work for Bradford College!”
Andy is keen to see the city of Bradford, regenerated back to its former glory and backs the £1.5 billion regeneration programme the city is currently undergoing. Andy explained: “As a city, it does need an awful lot of support to get it to where it needs to be. I like seeing the impact we make, big things like increasing the number of 16 to 18 year olds we get coming through our doors. There’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing our students go out with qualifications at the end of the year. Knowing it’s having an impact on the city, gives me a lot of satisfaction… it’s quite motivating really. Everyone should be motivated by it, because everyone’s contributed. Whether you’re picking up litter from outside the College, teaching students, or you’re the College Principal negotiating with the LSC about a particular matter – it’s all important. At the end of the day we’re all here for the students – and seeing them gain their qualifications gives me the biggest satisfaction! ”
