As a committed and enthusiastic member of staff, Richard Brown felt the time was right to stand for election and join the Bradford College Corporation.

In a career that spans over 20 years, Richard has been instrumental in seeing the Metallurgy and Materials Section at Bradford Colleges go from strength to strength – nominated for a Queens Award for his work on employer engagement policies and distance and e-learning for the Foundation Degree in Casting Technology.  The degree is believed by experts to be one of the most important developments within the industry for many years.

In 2009 Richard Brown was also recognised by the College for his outstanding teaching performance during the annual Grade One Teaching Awards.  More recently he was appointed Project Development Executive to grow Bradford College’s Employer Engagement Strategies.

Elaborating further on what inspired Richard to stand for election and join the Corporation, he said: “I’ve developed Bradford College’s employer engagement strategies, qualifications and services to focus on strategic engagement with employers through Industry Boards, Government agencies and partner organisations.  I would like to use my experiences and networks to help the College move further forward to engage academic staff within the College.”

Richard continued: “I’ve had varied life and work experiences outside Bradford College.  I’ve been a Vice Chair of a Primary School in Stockbridge for 5 years, and worked with the Army Cadet Force, TA, Probation Service and Police.  I feel I can draw on this experience and use it to add value to my role as a member of the College Corporation.”

Richard has also carried out charity work for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award - a youth charity, which offers the world's leading achievement award for young people.   Elaborating further Richard said “I get a lot out of giving something back – I’ve also worked as a volunteer for the youth sector, along with residential and outdoor education for over 20 years in South Yorkshire.”

Richard’s vision for the future involves effective, well-run strategies in tune with the business to help the College go from strength to strength.  Richard concluded: “I would like to help the academic staff work in harmony with the Corporation to continue to innovate through the highest academic standards of teaching and learning!”
