Andy Welsh cycles to work and benefits from building regular exercise into his everyday life. As little as 30 minutes a day, 5 times a week can help keep your heart healthy and your weight down. With this in mind, Andy explains more about the Travel Plan. Andy said: “The Travel Plan aims to open up the choices for our staff and students, between driving or using alternative modes of transport. We understand that this can only happen when the conditions are given for alternatives to car use. This is exactly what our Travel Plan is about - creating the right conditions to encourage people to walk, cycle, car share or use public transport to work.”
Andy also took advantage of the Ride2Work scheme, which gives staff, 20% discount off the purchase of a new bike. Andy explained: “My main motivation is keeping fit and doing my bit for the environment. Andy continued: “It actually works out quicker for me to cycle rather than drive. For Andy, there have turned out to be additional benefits. Andy said: “Instead of going to the gym at the weekend, I go cycling with my kids. Andy joked: “Plus, I can get away with eating a lot more cake!”
Other members of the Directorate have also embraced the College becoming a greener place to work. Doug Stott and Ronnie Todd car share.
