Academic English

Academic EnglishAcademic English courses are designed for students who wish to progress onto other courses in the UK at college or university, such as A Levels or a degree. We offer flexible start and finish dates from September to July and you can study for one, two or three terms. Minimum English entry level is intermediate. Beginners and elementary-level students cannot join this course.

You will follow an 8-hour General English core (compulsory) programme with a choice of either 4, 5 or 7 hours per week (depending on the course chosen) of additional exam preparation modules, either for IELTS or Cambridge Main Suite examinations.

The Academic English course allows students to work on each of the four skills needed for the exams (reading, writing, listening and speaking), as well as grammar and vocabulary workshop sessions with individual feedback and timed exam practice every week.

We may also advise you to follow Special Study options from the General English list, depending on your needs.

The objective of our Academic English course is to specifically prepare you for examinations which will allow you to continue studying Further and Higher Education courses in an English medium, giving you the study skills necessary to follow your course.  Examinations are optional for EU students and international students on a Student Visitor Visa or Dependant Visa. Students on Tier 4 General Student Visas must enter and attend an examination to complete their course.
